PORT-OF-SPAIN (TRINIDAD), FEB 13: West Indies made a steady start to be 72 for one at lunch after being sent in by England on the first day of the third Cable and Wireless cricket Test at Queen’s Park Oval here today.

West Indies skipper Brian Lara was in a confident mood, unbeaten on 25 at the break. The left-handed double world record holder hit four boundaries off the 38 balls he received. Opener Sherwin Campbell was more circumspect in his 21 not out off 83 balls with three fours.

England’s only breakthrough came from fast bowler Andy Caddick just after the first hour.

Caddick, who was wicketless in the second Test that the West Indies won by three wickets last Monday, removed Stuart Williams for 24 with the first ball of his second spell.

The 28-year-old batsman edged an outswinger to first slip where Graham Thorpe held a fine low catch. At the break, Caddick had one for 22 off nine overs.

England made one change to their eleven, Adam Hollioake forced out by a back injury. His place wasoriginally going to go to Mark Ramprakash but he was back in the hotel with the flu and Mark Butcher came in to fill the all-rounder’s slot at No 6.

The West Indies fielded their winning eleven from the second Test.
