NEW DELHI, January 15: The police sealed a cinema in west Delhi yesterday and arrested three persons on charge of screening parts of a blue film during a regular show last night.

This is the first instance of a cinema being sealed in Delhi for screening blue films. The police have also recommended the cancellation of the cinema’s licence.

The police conducted a raid following complaints from residents in the Nangloi area that regular screening of blue films in the night takes place at Lokesh Cinema. According to Additional DCP (west) P.S. Bhushan, a police officer went to see the last show of an adult movie yesterday and found that some nudes had been inserted separately into the movie.

“The nude scenes were an interpolation and not part of the movie cleared by the censor board. It was a cut-and paste-story,” said Bhushan.

Soon after the raid, the police arrested the cinema manager, Mahender Saini, and two operators, Ram Baran and R. K. Pandey. They have also seized the projector and the tapes of the film.

Bhushan said the cinema owner had given the hall on contract to another person and investigations were on to trace the contractor and distributor.
