Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Thursday targeted Finance Minister P Chidambaram over rising inflation and warned that his party would launch a nationwide stir on the issue.
“If there is further price rise while Chidambaram holds the post of Finance Minister, we will oppose him both in Parliament and outside,” he said.
“We are supporting the UPA Government but have not surrendered to the UPA,” Singh said.
On implementation of Sixth Pay Commission report, Singh said it would definitely give some relief to government staff even though the common man is suffering from rising inflation.
During Chidambaram’s tenure as Finance Minister, rupee has been devalued but there was no corresponding rise in salaries.
“While Chidambaram was harping on GDP growth, he did not talk about rising inflation,” Singh said.
Singh met Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil and requested him to intervene in the communal riots at Digras in Yavatmal district.
“Patil has assured me that the matter would be probed within 15 days,” he said. Singh lamented that the riot took place when the Congress-NCP led ‘secular’ government was ruling the state.
