Khaled Mashud completed his maiden Test hundred and led a rearguard action to earn Bangladesh a draw on the last day of their opening Test against West Indies here.

Mashud, who came to the crease when his side had subsided to 79-6, batted doggedly to remain undefeated on 103 when Habibul Bashar had the privilege of becoming the first Bangladesh captain to declare in Test cricket with his side on 271-9 in the second innings on the final day yesterday.

In 28 previous Tests, the visitors have earned just two draws and lost 26 times.

Brief scores

Bangladesh:

416 and 271-9 decl (K Mashud 103, R Saleh 51; R Sarwan 4-37) vs West Indies: 352 and 113-0 (C Gayle 66 n.o., Devon Smith 40 n.o.)
