The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as part of a cost-cutting drive, proposes to launch five-day week for its over 35,000 employees across the country. It has already informed its unions about the proposed move.

RBI unions have confirmed that they have received such an intimation from the management and are awaiting a formal invitation for talks in this regard.

They have also indicated their support for the management. RBI proposes to implement the five-day a week formula soon whereby the daily working hours are expected to be increased by at least two hours. In a week, every employee would have to work extra 10 hours in order to relax on Saturday and Sunday.

According to sources, once RBI introduces five-day week, it is expected that it would be replicated by Nabard for its over 5,000 employees.
