The US government was justified in an air raid that killed Afghan civilians as the strike was aimed at enemy targets where ‘‘bad guys’’ were hiding, Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz said on Monday.
Afghans officials said 48 civilians were killed and 117 others injured on July 1 attack on a wedding party in Uruzgan province. US officials say the attack was launched after forces reportedly came under anti-aircraft fire from villages. ‘‘We are concerned when we believe we may have killed innocent people. We regret that,’’ he said.
