AFTER announcing that the BJP will lead a new coalition government in Jharkhand for the next four-and-a-half years,Chief Minister Shibu Soren did a U-turn upon reaching Ranchi from Delhi. Soren claimed that “it would still be a rotational arrangement” and that “a BJP chief minister would be at the helm for the next 28 months, followed by a JMM chief minister”.

Shibu’s son,Hemant, had earlier endorsed BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar and AJSU leader Sudesh Mahto on a BJP chief minister leading the coalition government in the state,“for the next four-and-half years”.

“A BJP-led government will be formed in Jharkhand. We want to save the government from the Congress misrule. A government, which stands for development, will be formed in the state, and the (BJP-led) government will last its full term. This arrangement has been taken for the full (remaining) term of the state assembly,” Kumar had said,in the capital. Echoing him,Hemant Soren had said in Delhi: “We will support a government in Jharkhand under BJP leadership. The decision has been taken to save the state from the President’s Rule.”

Hemant and Shibu are said to hold differing views on a power-sharing arrangement with the BJP. The “split view” in JMM was conveyed to the BJP brass with a request to accommodate those concerns,at their meeting with the BJP brass, held at the residence of Nitin Gadkari,on Saturday, said sources. The two sides held five rounds of talks in all.

JMM,claimed that in lieu ofthe CM’s post to the BJP,the JMM would get the Speaker’s post and five Cabinet berths in the cabinet. The Jharkhand cabinet can have at most twelve ministers. The remaining berths would be divided amongst the BJP,AJSU,and JD (U). Deputy CM Sudesh Mahto told The Sunday Express he hoped “a new government would be in place in the state, after a smooth transition” The BJP Parliamentary Board is slated to meet on Monday where it was also to decide its chief ministerial candidate.
