Vote bank considerations determine govt approach to terror, says Jaitley

Pakistani soil continues to be used to plan such attacks against India: Jaitley

On the eve of the fifth anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks,Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley alleged the Congress-led UPA government was linking “the battle against terror with vote bank considerations” and that government response to terror attacks has been “woefully slow”.

“The attitude of some governments in States and certainly the Centre is to link the battle against terror with vote bank considerations rather than concern for national security. Our immediate response to terror attacks is still woefully slow,” Jaitley said in a social media post on Monday.

Advocating for a “national determination” against terrorism,he cited the US example and stated,“Five years after the Mumbai attack, there is a need to build a national determination against terrorism. Post 9/11,the Americans have substantially immunized their nation against terror. Why can’t we do that?”

The senior parliamentarian lamented Pakistan’s persistent designs to shelter cross-border terrorists and sought to draw government attention towards “indigenous modules” in the country.

“There is enormous evidence and intelligence information available with our agencies, which conclusively establishes that the conspiracy for this attack was hatched across the border in Pakistan… Pakistan, however, has refused to co-operate in nailing down principal conspirators like Hafiz Saeed and others…,” he said adding “our western neighbour has not given up its designs to destabilise India through cross-border terrorism. Pakistani soil continues to be used to plan such attacks against India”.
