Thousands of grieving supporters and leaders cutting across the party lines on Sunday bade a tearful adieu to veteran Congress leader Sat Mahajan,better known as Field Marshal,whose mortal remains were consigned to the flames at his native place Nurpur. Mahajan (85) died in New Delhi on Saturday following a brief illness. HPCC president Virbhadra Singh and Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal,who was touring Hamirpur and Kangra districts,suspended his programme and reached Nurpur to attend the cremation. Born on July 27,1927,at Nurpur,Mahajan emerged as an important leader of Kangra after its merger with Himachal in 1966.
