Two UP cops suspended for inaction over bodies

The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended the station house officer

The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended the station house officer (SHO) of Bijnor police station,Vijay Singh Rana,and the station officer of Ramraj police station in Muzaffarnagar,Arvind Singh Pundir,for allegedly not recovering the bodies,believed to be of those killed in the flood-affected Uttarakhand,found in Ganga river.

The police officers reportedly explained their inaction,saying the bodies were found in the jurisdiction of another district.Principal Secretary (Home) R M Srivastava said the officials were suspended for not acting according to the rules after finding the unidentified bodies and not getting panchnamas filled and their post-mortems done.

Condemning the police BJP on Monday said,“indulging into border dispute instead of taking proper action on part of the police is shameful”.

Srivastava said the superintendents of police,additional superintendents of police and additional district magistrates of these districts have also been warned of strict action if such incident was repeated.

He said the officials have been warned against such negligence and have been asked to preserve the DNA samples of the bodies after getting the postmortem videographed.
