The saffron brigade’s moral police in Tamil Nadu’s Theni district was in for a surprise when a young couple asked them to arrange for their “registered marriage” when “cornered” by the activists on Valentines Day.

Police said eight BJP and Hindu Munnani activists, were moving around with “mangal sutra” to “marry off” couples found dating on Saturday evening when they came across the lovers at Vaigai dam area. Rajamanickam,a marketing executive, and his lover asked the activists to arrange for their registered marriage. This led to an altercation following which the police took the activists, including local BJP leader Kannan, into custody,DSP Pandiarajan said.

A case was registered against them for causing “public nuisance,” and they were later released.
