Thackeray slams Lokpal activists: All hypocrites

Thackeray also took the opportunity to once again castigate cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Friday said political parties, activists and others supporting the demand for an active Lokpal to tackle corruption in the country are “hypocrites”,and went on to warn that such a body would serve to overpower the Supreme Court and the President of India.

In an interview to news channel Times Now,Thackeray said,“All Bollywood people came. Those who sign huge amounts in crores. Do they have any moral right to join Anna… You sign 5 crores contracts, take 2 crores and then 3 crores under that and you still pretend to be a clean person and join this caravan.”

Thackeray also took the opportunity to once again castigate cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for his comments on Mumbai being for all Indians. On the possibility of a patch-up between Raj and Uddhav Thackeray,he said that while he would have no objections to Raj returning to the party fold, that is an unlikely scenario.

Asked if he sees the cousins working together in the future,he said,“Why don’t you ask this question to both of them… How can we kick him (Raj) out? These days there are several leaders and fewer followers.”

He said further,“If they agree,if they patch up,why should I object to that? It is a good thing. But will they, that’s a question.”

He reserved his sharpest words for Tendulkar, questioning the cricketer’s philanthropy and reiterating that the national icon should not attempt to play on the “political pitch”. Asked what was wrong with Tendulkar’s statement that Mumbai belongs to the entire country,Thackeray said,“We fought for Mumbai, that I will not tolerate, whoever he maybe,I will not tolerate that nonsense I say. It is the capital of Maharashtra that you cannot afford to forget… we were fighting for Mumbai long before he was born.”

Thackeray also refused to call the BJP-Sena alliance in Maharashtra a permanent one, saying the younger generation of BJP leaders are newcomers. “In politics you can be close and close the door also,” he said about the alliance.
