Signalling at changes in the power equation within the Prime Ministers Office,the government on Thursday announced the appointed of T K A Nair,Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister,as an advisor.
Senior bureaucrat Pulok Chatterjee,currently serving as an executive director in the World Bank in Washington,will replace him as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. The appointments will become effective from October 3.
As advisor,Nair,a retired IAS officer of 1963 batch,will be given the rank and status of Minister of State in the PMO,but sources suggest that the implications of the rejig means a clear decline in his powers. The official release,incidentally,did not mention the responsibilities that Nair will be given of in the PMO.
