Surging 3G sale to slash deficit

Fiscal deficit may come down to 5.21 per cent from the estimated 5.5 per cent of GDP in the current fiscal,with the government exuding confidence that revenues from sale of 3G spectrum may touch Rs 50,000-55,000 crore from earlier expectations of Rs 35,000 crore.

The government has pegged the fiscal deficit at Rs 3.81 lakh crore,which is 5.5 per cent of the GDP. The figure has been deduced by taking into account Rs 35,000 crore revenue from sale of 3G spectrum.

Telecom Minister A Raja,however,today exuded confidence that revenues from 3G and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum put together may touch Rs 50,000-55,000 crore.

“It is a matter of pride … The revenue from 3G alone may cross Rs 40,000 crore. The motivation shown by the operators is remarkable.
