Family members of Asrar Mushtaq Dar,the 20-year-old college student whose murder sparked the latest round of protests in Srinagar,on Thursday accused the Jammu and Kashmir Police of lax investigations and sought the intervention of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to “bring the culprits to book”.

“Police were slow in their investigations,” said Asrar’s uncle Kursheed Ahmad. “They didn’t investigate the case with the intensity and specialisation they should have.”

Ahmad and Asrar’s father Mehraj-ud-din Dar sought the intervention of the Chief Minister and DGP Kuldeep Khoda. “We appeal to CM Omar Abdullah and the DGP to take personal interest in this case,” Ahmad said.
