S-I hurt as police team,villagers clash in Ghaziabad

A sub-inspector was injured in Nahli village in Ghaziabad’s Bhojpur block on Sunday in a clash between villagers and a police team that had come here from Bulandshahr to arrest a wanted criminal.

On a tip-off,a police team in plain clothes and on a private vehicle,from Gulawati,Bulandshahr,reached Nahli village in Ghaziabad on Sunday to arrest wanted criminal Yameen who has a reward of Rs 5,000 on him. The team,however,did not inform the Ghaziabad police on its arrival. A few persons,mistaking the policemen to be criminals belonging to an another group,attacked the police team. The villagers and the police resorted to firing and stone-pelting. S-I Girwar Singh of Gulawati police was injured after a bullet hit his hand during the clash.

The Ghaziabad police arrived at the spot soon after the firing.

According to the village people,two groups were vying for the power in the village. “Panchayat elections are coming. Both the groups,having criminals in them,allegedly keep informing the police on the whereabouts of criminals in each other’s group,” said a village resident on condition of anonymity.

Ghaziabad SP(Rural),Captain M M Baig,confirming the clash,said,“The local police had soon took control of the situation. The injured S-I was rushed to hospital and one Popat,having criminal history,has been arrested with .315 bore pistol with which the the S-I was shot.”
