Nakuul Mehta, who is enamoured with ballroom dancing, talks about his new passion
Like all actors Nakuul Mehta was polishing his skills by learning Bollywood dance,hip-hop and jazz, when choreographer Sandip Soparrkar called him to perform at the International Dance Day. Sandip noticed the actors natural flair for choreography and asked him to try learning ballroom dance. He said that I have a great sense of ballroom dancing and took me under his wings, says Nakuul, who made his debut in Haal-E-Dil,two years ago. While learning the various forms like Rumba,Samba,Jive and Cha Cha Cha,Nakuul was quite enamoured by the art. He discovered that all forms of ballroom dance had to be performed with a partner. But the energy, tempo and rhythm of each form is different. It is also more a Western way of dancing and not popular with our Bollywood actors but Im glad that Im learning it.
The actor is also thrilled he will get an opportunity to showcase his dance skills in Flamenco En Bollywood,a Spanish film that will go on the floors in October. It was such a coincidence that as soon as I started learning ballroom dance,I was offered this project, says Nakuul, whose second movie, the off-beat Avant Garde Pythagoras Sharma, will soon do the rounds of film festivals.
