Adding another chapter to the book of Raag Rang,Spandan Communications,in collaboration with Flambe Entertainment,presented its seventh evening. The duo Sanjeev and Ashwani Shankar performed at the capitals India Habitat Centre.
Born in a family of musicians of the Banaras Gharana in which the shehnai and flute are played for the last 450 years and over,Sanjeev and Ashwani Shankar manifested their strong affinity towards music at the age of seven and five respectively. Their father Pt. Daya Shankar,himself an internationally-acclaimed shehnai player,guided them.
Sanjeev and Ashwani also had the privilege to learn from their grandfather,the legendary shehnai player Pt. Anant Lal. They took formal training in Raag,Taal and Laya. Both have been awarded scholarship by the Government of India,Department of Culture,for their outstanding talent in the field of music. At present they are learning under the able guidance of the legendry sitar maestro Pt Ravi Shankar. Accompanied by Anand Shankar on tabla and Yogesh and Alen Lutik on sur-shehnai,their performance was testimony to their training and experience as they mesmerised the gathering with Raag Purvi,Raag Kafi in a folk tune and Raag Bhairavi.
Raag Rang evenings are organised with the sole purpose of taking the world closer to the heritage of Indias classical music and I am sure todays performance has succeeded in doing just that. Indian classical music and dance is one of the biggest treasures and the entire nation should value its richness and diversity,so we are making our efforts in the direction, said Anshuman Pandey,Director,Spandan Communications.
