Criticising actor Emraan Hashmi for claiming that he was denied a flat in a plush housing society in Bandra as he was a Muslim,the Shiv Sena said film stars belonging to the minority community were not discriminated against on religious grounds. An editorial in the Sena mouthpiece Saamna on Wednesday also challenged Hashmi to go to Pakistan and buy a house there.

Emraan not getting a house in some society cannot be an issue of discrimination on religious grounds. The film industry has innumerable Muslim artistes and musicians. Were they homeless all these days? questioned the editorial in the newspaper. It added that the flat owner had changed his decision to sell the house,which had prompted Hashmis outburst and also accused him of giving it a Hindu versus Muslim angle.

It also pointed to Muslim film personalities like Nadira,Dilip Kumar,Naushad,Amjad Khan and said Salman Khan,Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan had been successful and being Muslim had never been a hindrance. No one asked Shamshad Begum,Suraiyya,Meena Kumari their religion and their religion never stood in the way of their art, the editorial said.

When a Muslim had been elevated to the supreme post in India in Rashtrapati Bhawan,it is not possible to decipher why Hashmi is making such a hue and cry out about a house in Mumbai, said the editorial,accusing Hashmi of fundamentalism. It also took on director Mahesh Bhatt for his support to the actor.

The matter is as serious as the rape by Shiney (Ahuja). People like Hashmi have spoilt the mindset of the common Muslim, it added. Go to Pakistan as a Muslim and buy a house there. Then people like you will realise the importance of Hindustan, said the editorial.

It also accused Bhatt of seeking publicity through such stunts.
