Leading couturiers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla will be celebrated in London with Sotheby’s hosting an exhibition of their designer wear and interior decor from September 3 to 5. The exhibition, titled “India Fantastique”,will coincide with the launch of a lavish two-volume publication of the same name (Thames & Hudson Ltd,Rs 7,995),which showcases the duo’s 25-year-old career in partnership. The Fashion volume comprises 11 chapters on their designs, followed by two chapters encompassing their specialities: chikankari and zardozi. On the other hand, the Interiors volume presents 15 interiors — ranging from the duo’s own homes in Mumbai and the Himalayas to an over-the-top apartment in London and a wedding venue in Hyderabad. Sotheby’s will feature their landmark designs set against a backdrop of images from some of their most fabulous and maximalist interiors.

Celebrating The Regional

The annual festival of pan-Indian cinema at the India Habitat Centre is back and the line-up this time around, too, doesn’t fail to impress. The 10-day Habitat Film Festival 2012 is scheduled to start on July 21. This year, the Habitat Film Club has decided to honour veteran actor Waheeda Rehman’s works. Rehman will inaugurate the festival at 6 pm this Saturday, over a conversation with author Mukul Kesavan. As for the screenings, the line-up looks promising with award-winning regional films such as Deool (Marathi),Vaagai Sooda Vaa (Tamil),Phijigee Mani (Manipuri) and Adi Madhyantam (Malayalam). The festival of mostly regional films — punctuated by the retrospective of Rehman’s landmark films such as Guide,Pyaasa and Teesri Kasam — has this year extended itself to welcome the first Oscar-winning film from Pakistan,Saving Face. The screening of the film on July 23 will be followed by a conversation between Ashvin Kumar, director of Inshallah Football, and the makers of Saving Face.
