SBI beats forecast,Q3 net up 13.45%

Country's top lender posted a net profit of Rs 28.28 bn in the fiscal third quarter ended Dec.

The country’s largest lender State Bank of India today reported a 13.45 per cent rise in its consolidated net profit at Rs 3,806.49 crore for the third quarter ended December 31,over the same period last year.

The bank had a consolidated net profit of Rs 3,354.94 crore in the year-ago period,SBI said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

SBI’s total income increased by 14.7 per cent to Rs 36,966.87 crore in the October-December quarter of 2010 from Rs 32,231.45 crore in the same quarter last fiscal.

The bank posted a net profit of Rs 3,710.48 crore during the quarter compared to Rs 3,304.59 crore in the same quarter a year ago.

On a standalone basis,SBI’s net profit grew 14 per cent to Rs 2,828.06 crore in the third quarter against Rs 2,479.05 crore in the year-ago period.
