The controversy between Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma is a thing of the past and no longer relevant, the latter’s daughter and newly appointed Union Minister of State Agatha Sangma said here on Sunday.

“The issue was dragged far too long. The main issue, that Sonia Gandhi should not become PM because of her foreign origin,is over. It is a thing of the past. My father had never opposed her holding the AICC top post. The issue is now very irrelevant,” she said. Agatha, the youngest member of the new UPA Government, also said that her father had no personal problem whatsoever with Sonia. “My father never had any personal problem with Sonia. He has also gone on record saying that Rahul Gandhi could become a prime minister,” she said.
