Salem ‘man’ accused in Rajan aide murder spotted at hospital

As Abu Salem was brought to J J Hospital Friday, security agencies noted the presence of Zaffar Kazi Alam Khan alias Abbas

As Abu Salem was brought to J J Hospital Friday, security agencies noted the presence of Zaffar Kazi Alam Khan alias Abbas. Abbas,a long-time friend of Salem, was seen with the latter’s brother Abu Hatim.

Abbas is one of the 11 accused arrested by the Mumbai Police for the murder of Chhota Rajan aide Farid Tanasha in 2010.

He was also arrested for the sensational Kala Ghoda shootout case in which two persons —Amjad Khan and Himanshu Choudhary — were gunned down on October 16,2006. Abbas and co-accused Osama Khan were, however, acquitted in the case by a Sessions court in 2009.

Abbas was booked by the police for the murder of bookie Chhote Miyan in 2009. However, the Crime Branch later filed an application discharging Abbas from the case owing to lack of evidence.

At 8:45 pm on July 29 last year,Zahid Ghulam Hassan Mir alias Chote Miyan was shot dead along with his nephew Syed Arshad Hussain by unknown assailants on Maulana Shaukat Ali Road in Nagpada. His driver Abdul Qureshi and servant Jag Bhavan Pal were injured in the firing.

Sources said Abbas handles Salem’s network outside the jail and his presence in the hospital was being probed.
