Road rage: Main accused still at large

Two days after a man and his friends stabbed a 30-year-old BPO employee in an incident of road rage in West Delhi,police said that the key accused in the case,Vikrar,is still absconding.

The other accused — 22-year-old Dinesh and a minor — were arrested on Friday.

Identifying the victim as Varun Oberoi,police said that a number of teams have been sent across the city to locate Vikrar’s whereabouts. “We have not sent our teams anywhere outside Delhi. He used to live in Nangli Jalib area with his family and work at a cellphone repair shop. His parents claim that they do not know where he is,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Renganathan.

Meanwhile,Oberoi is still recuperating at the ICU in Mata Chanan Devi Hospital,Janakpuri.

A BPO employee in Mumbai,he had flown down to Delhi a few days ago with his wife,Taruna (28),to celebrate Diwali with his in-laws here. According to police,he was travelling with his family in his car when the incident occurred near the C-2 red light in Janakpuri around 11.30 pm on Thursday.

“The victim’s car accidentally scraped against the minor’s Yamaha motorcycle,leading to an altercation. His friends,Dinesh and Vikrar,who were riding another motorcycle,also joined in the fight. All the three accused hail from Nangli Jalib area in West Delhi,” an officer said.

Taruna said the couple had gone out for dinner with their relatives on Thursday when the mishap occurred. “The boy,who was on a motorcycle,tried to take a U-turn at the red light opposite Gianis Ice Cream outlet and fell on the road. We rushed out to see if he was hurt. Suddenly,some of his friends joined in. They started abusing us,saying Isko hum dekh lenge. Gaadiwaala hai,paise toh bharne padenge (We’ll take care of him. He is a car owner,he’ll have to pay),” Taruna said.

Police have registered a case of attempted murder.

Oberoi married Taruna six years ago,and does not have any children.
