Right to Service bill in Bihar soon: Nitish

Bill stipulates punishments to officials who fail to deliver services to the people of Bihar.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said the Right to Service bill,which proposes to make official machinery accountable for work,would soon be placed in the state Assembly during the Budget Session beginning tomorrow.

Talking to reporters here Kumar said he had already had discussions with top state officials on the draft of the proposed legislation.

“I hope that the draft will soon be finalised and the bill will be tabled during the Budget Session,” he said.

The bill envisages a stipulated timeframe for delivering important services to citizens. It also stipulates strict censures and punishments to officials who fail to deliver.

Kumar said the public utility services to be covered under the bill were being screened and scrutinised.

He said the people had the fundamental right to receive the services on time and the bill would ensure legal action against the officials for any lapse in providing the services.

Kumar also described as ‘encouraging’ the performance of players from Bihar in the ongoing National Games in Jharkhand.
