The government on Friday put on hold non-basmati rice exports in the wake of litigation over the process adopted by the Ministry of Commerce for the implementation of an EGoM decision allowing the export of 10 lakh tonnes of non-basmati rice.
operation and implementation of the allocation made in terms of Trade Notice of July 27 is stayed in view of the order passed by the High Court , Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a trade notice. Rice-exports,banned since 2008,was allowed by this month in the wake of record food procurement.
