Retail inflation for industrial workers rose to 9.84 per cent in July,due to rise in prices of food items. It stood at 8.43 per cent in the same month last year. "The largest upward contributions to the change in current index came from food prices which rose by 2.38 per cent,contributing 2.44 percentage points to the total change," an official release said today. Retail inflation measured in terms of consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) was at 10.05 per cent in June this year,it said. The largest upward pressure for July retail inflation came from rice,arhar dal,green chilly,onion,vegetables,mainly potato and tomato and sugar,it added. However,the rise was partly offset by downward contributions from French bean,brinjal,and poultry. Food inflation stood at 11.27 per cent during the month,up from 6.25 per cent a year ago. In June 2012,food inflation was at 10.45 per cent. House rent which increased by 2.96 per cent,contributed 1.05 percentage points to the overall retail inflation in July.
