The Rajasthan government on Wednesday charged the state Special Operations group (SOG) with locating and arresting former DIG Madhukar Tandon, who allegedly raped the wife of a former police constable in 1997. The order came even as Dausa MP Kirorilal Meena was arrested on Wednesday while protesting against the governments inability to arrest Tandon even after 13 years. State Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal on Wednesday said the issue was serious and needed to be addressed immediately. We have handed the case over to the SOG to locate and arrest Tandon. We are also working to find out how he has managed to evade arrest all these years, Dhariwal said. He added that he has sought all files related to the case immediately. I have asked the police to give me all possible details about this case because of its serious nature. The government will do everything possible to bring Tandon to book, Dhariwal said. A team of the Rajasthan Police even visited Tandons house in Noida on Wednesday as part of the ongoing investigation. Following the public outcry over the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case,a woman from Dausa in Rajasthan attempted to meet Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday alleging that Tandon had abducted and raped her in 1997. On Tuesday, she said,I was summoned from Dausa to Jaipur on some pretense by Tandon who then kidnapped me and took me to his house in Noida where I was raped. According to her husband,he was booted out of the police department in 2000 while pursuing the case since Tandon had considerable influence. Meanwhile,Dausa MP Kirori Lal Meena, who organised a dharna against government inaction was arrested on Wednesday along with 13 supporters. Meena and his supporters were booked under Section 151 of the CrPC and taken to the Ajmer jail. Immediately after Meenas arrest, his supporters from Dausa blocked the Jaipur-Agra national highway in protest. The police have deployed extra security personnel in Jaipur to avoid any untoward incident.
