Rahul mantra to win polls: ‘embrace poor’

While the UPA is making all out efforts to revive investor sentiment and rekindle the economy,Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday prescribed his formula for winning the elections — embrace the poor. He said the Congress stands for the poor and that differentiates it from the Opposition.

He said the Congress and the Opposition — an obvious reference to the BJP — follows two schools of thought. “We stand for the poor while the Opposition doesn’t understand the problems of the poor,” he said. “They don’t spend night in your houses. They just talk about your progress but they don’t hold your hands and they also don’t understand your problems.

“They spoke about India shining,but were surprised how they lost the elections if India was shining. They lost in 2004 and in 2009. They will lose in 2014 as well. If you want to win the elections in Hindustan,go to the poor,hold their hands,understand their problems and win elections,” he said addressing a function here.
