The Congress on Sunday announced party vice-pre-sident Rahul Gandhi will address two rallies one each in eastern UP and Bundelkhand region on October 30.
The rallies will be held at Raath in Hamirpur and Salempur in Deoria district, Congress state president Nirmal Khatri said.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting called by AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry in Delhi, which was attended by several senior leaders including Khatri.
Earlier, the party had cancelled two rallies of Rahul Gandhi scheduled to take place on October 22 fearing poor turn-out due to Karva Chauth falling on the same date. The Congress had planned four Thanksgiving rallies with an aim to express gratitude to the UPA government for passing the food security Bill. While two rallies have already taken place in Aligarh and Rampur, the other two were scheduled for Hamirpur and Salempur.
Meanwhile, party leaders have been told not to compare the rallies of Rahul Gandhi and BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
We have come to know that people were brought from other states for Modis Kanpur rally (on Saturday). Moreover,it was Modis first rally in UP,while Rahul Gandhi has already toured the state extensively during 2012 Assembly election, said a senior party leader.
