Pyari quits as BJD RS leader

“Maybe he wanted to prevent further humiliation,” said a BJD leader.

Two days after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sent the loyalists of his former adviser Pyari Mohan Mohapatra packing from the ministry,Mohapatra resigned as the party’s parliamentary party leader in Rajya Sabha.

“I have submitted my resignation letter to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha this morning,” said Mohapatra, who was suspended from BJD after the May 29 failed coup against Naveen. BJD has seven MPs in the Rajya Sabha.

BJD sources said Mohapatra’s letter came as Naveen was mulling removing him from the post. “Maybe he wanted to prevent further humiliation,” said a BJD leader.
