Days after he put the state government in a spot by calling on his nephew in jail,Cabinet minister and senior DMK leader Veerapandi S Arumugam alleged that the murder case against his relative was a part of a conspiracy. His comments were published in a vernacular weekly. Arumugams nephew Sureshkumar,vice-chairman of the Salem District Panchayat Union and the DMK secretary of Manamarathupatty Union,was arrested in connection with a murder case in which a person killed six members of his family. Arumugam said the charge was a part of a smear campaign,allegedly led by a local MLA who was once his protege.
