In the wake of internal turmoil in Pakistan,India on Thursday said that it wants to see strong and stable regimes in the neighbourhood. Talking to reporters in the capital,External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee stressed the need for a stable government in Pakistan to help curb elements in the country that are utilising the terror infrastructure there and engaging in terrorism within Pakistan and outside. The security situation in the neighbourhood, including the Bangladesh Rifles mutiny, was discussed at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the first since his bypass surgery in January. With the political situation in Pakistan deteriorating, the security situation in the country and its implications on India were high on the agenda of the CCS meeting. India, however, said it did not want to comment on the internal matters of another country. Pakistan is an important neighbour. I hope that all internal matters will be resolved by its leadership amicably and peacefully,in its best interests, Mukherjee said. Emphasising the need for a strong regime, the minister said the growth of the entire region depended on stable governments. We have always been interested to see strong and stable regimes, more so in our neighbourhood,so that the entire region can grow and develop together for the common good of its people, he said.
