Non-film album a risk: Akriti

Playback singer Akriti Kakar, the voice behind hits like Marjaani Marjaani and Khudaya khair, says that she has taken a huge risk with her non-film album Akriti.

Playback singer Akriti Kakar, the voice behind hits like Marjaani Marjaani and Khudaya khair, says that she has taken a huge risk with her non-film album Akriti.
“There are hardly any music channels to promote non-film music. I have taken a major risk by launching my album. Film music sells because of huge promotion and the star factor. Moreover, piracy too is hard-hitting,” the singer said. Kakar,23,began her career at the age of 18 with remix albums and went on to achieve success in films like Kismat Konnection,Golmaal Returns,Aa Dekhen Zara and Johnny Gaddaar.
The young singer also turned composer with her new album. Akriti has composed music for five of the seven tracks in the album while the other two tracks have been composed by Shankar Mahadevan and the lyrics have been penned by Manoj Yadav and Neelesh Misra.

Exorcist composer inspires Varma again
The Phoonk 2 title-track is inspired from the theme of Exorcist composed by Italian music composer Ennio Morricone, says Ram Gopal Varma, who presented the recent film. “I was actually scared after watching the Hollywood horror film. I first heard the music before I became a director and got so obsessed with it that I have already used versions of it in various films of mine and I will keep using the music one way or the other forever.”
