Amid speculation about the future of its relationship with the BJP,the JDU Thursday asserted it did not intend to support the UPA in return for grant of special status to Bihar.
Giving a special status to Bihar on account of its backwardness is not a matter of bargain. It is Bihars right, JDU general secretary K C Tyagi said and shot down suggestion that his party was negotiating deal with the UPA after the the Centre accepted its demand for special status.
And in an apparent attempt to make common cause with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Orissas Naveen Patnaik,Tyagi said,Other backward states should also get the same status.
He,however, discounted the possibility of a third front. The JDU is a part of the NDA and our president Sharad Yadav is the convenor of this alliance. We are running an alliance government in Bihar. Where is the question of a third front?
On whether Sharad Yadav would be re-elected JDU president at the national executive meet on April 14,he said,No such thing is under discussion right now.
