NHAI constructed 1,780 km roads in 2010-11

Against target of 2,500 km of National Highways,1,780 km have been constructed by NHAI: Jitin

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) constructed 1,780 km of road in 2010-11 against the targetted 2,500 km,Parliament was informed on Thursday.

“Against the target of 2,500 km of building National Highways,1,780 km have been constructed by NHAI during 2010-11,” Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways,

Jitin Prasada told the Rajya Sabha a written reply. To generate a visible impact on the creation of road infrastructure,the government had envisaged to take up the task of improvement of National Highways at the rate of 20 km per day which works out to 7000 km per year,according to the the annual report of the Road Transport Ministry. Replying to a separate question,Prasada said that out of 5,846 km of Golden Quadrilateral project,99.69 per cent of roads at 5,828 km have been constructed. “Projects under implementation are likely to be completed by December,2011,except Ganjam-Icchapuram stretch,which is targeted to be completed by December,2012,” he said. He further said that the Golden Quadrilateral project was originally targeted for completion by December 2003.
