From taunts to fix-governance advice,the Congress is getting it all from its allies who are apprehensive about the 2014 elections now. They appeared to nudge the Congress to “learn lessons” from the shock defeat and address issues like price rise.

The NCP was blunt as it said projecting a prime ministerial candidate was not going to help unless governance issues are addressed. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi triggered speculation about the possibility of the party declaring Rahul Gandhi as the PM candidate. She said the party will decide on the PM candidate at the opportune time.

Senior NCP leader Tariq Anwar said announcing Rahul as the PM candidate won’t help much. “I don’t think that is going to make any difference. What is required is setting right the governance,” he said. “Issues like price rise,corruption played a role besides the perception of reluctance in decision-making. ”

In a series of “notes to self” tweets,National Conference leader and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah spoke about poorly attended public meetings indicating big trouble. “Big public meetings don’t always mean votes but poorly attended ones definitely indicate big trouble.”

Parties like DMK appeared cagey about aligning with the Congress again.
