The wife of Ziaul Haque has refused to accept the job offered by the Uttar Pradesh government and said she would not settle for less than the post of her murdered husband — Deputy Superintendent of Police.

“I will only accept the post of DSP which was held by my husband,” Parveen Azad said in Deoria Saturday. The state had appointed her Officer on Special Duty,Welfare,in UP Police — a post specifically created for her — on Friday.

Her late husband’s brother,who was appointed a constable,meanwhile,said his parents will decide for him. “I will do what my parents will say. It is totally their decision,” Sohrab Azad said. He refused to comment on his sister-in-law’s stand.

Ziaul Haque,Circle Officer of Kunda in Pratapgarh,was murdered in Balipur village on March 2. Parveen alleged her husband was killed at the behest of minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya. Raja Bhaiyya has since resigned.

Rahul visits family

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Ziaul Haque’s family in Deoria Saturday and extended his condolences over his murder. Heavy security arrangements were made in the village in Deoria for Rahul’s visit and media personnel were also stopped short of the slain police officer’s house.
