Maoists have sent a message to pro-Telangana parties that the time has come to launch a militant movement to achieve the state of Telangana,Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said Wednesday, attributing it to an input his force has recieved.
The top police officers statement came even as security was stepped up in the state capital ahead of the June 14 Chalo Assembly protest march called by pro-Telangana parties and organisations.
Maoists have a issued a statement and we also have information that Maoists may try to create trouble during Chalo Assembly. We have not given permission for this protest and I am warning all those who want to take the law in their hands that they will be dealt with very strictly, Sharma said.
In the past, leaders when given permission to carry out protests like the Millennium March, were unable to control the protesters, said Sharma. This,he said, led to violence.
In view of threat of violence, battalions of central paramilitary forces like CRPF,RAF and BSF have been sought. Besides,190 platoons of AP Special Police and nearly 1,000 police personnel under the supervision of 10 additional SPs have been deployed.
The other enhanced security measures include placing the city under the surveillance of CCTV. Preventive arrests have also been made in Khammam,Karimnagar and Nalgonda from where local leaders come to Hyderabad with a large numbers of protesters.
Meanwhile,pro-Telangana students clashed with the police on the Osmania University campus when they were prevented from taking out a motorcycle rally in support of the Chalo Assembly programme. A few police personnel were injured when students pelted stones at them. The police retaliated by firing teargas shells.
In spite of the police denying permission, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Telangana Joint Action Committee with other groups are set to go ahead with the march on Friday to lay siege to the Assembly.
