The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought an explanation from the Centre over the reported weight loss of a maid, who accused an Indian diplomat and her husband of “slavery,” “illegal trafficking” and “maltreatment” during her stay with them in the US.

“There are reports that she considerably lost weight, allegedly due to malnourishment. We would want the Union of India to explain these facts by way of medical reports or otherwise,” Justice Kailash Gambhir said.

Countering the allegation,Additional Solicitor General A S Chandhiok responded that the allegations were completely baseless.

“We would want facts to be on record concerning this allegation as the government cannot be privy to these since she was serving your officers in US. There are contentions that she had to be admitted in a hospital as she was malnourished,” Justice Gambhir said.
