London Symphony Orchestra perform in Mumbai after 36 years

The London Symphony Orchestra performed in Mumbai for the first time since their last visit in 1964.

The London Symphony Orchestra performed in Mumbai for the first time since their last visit in 1964. The presenting partners of the concert are Oberoi Hotels & Resorts,100 Pipers Pure Music,The Standard Chartered Bank and Vodafone. Kathryn McDowell,Managing Director of London Symphony Orchestra,comments,“We are delighted – their generosity is hugely appreciated by London Symphony Orchestra.”

The first concert on April 9 was conducted by Kristjn Jarvi and featured Bernstein Symphonic dances from Westside Story,Stravinsky Firebird Suite and the Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances. On April 10,the orchestra’s president,Sir Colin Davis,conducted a programme of Elgar Enigma Variations and Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique.

The LSO is resident at the Barbican centre in the city of London,where it presents over 70 concerts every year. The international presence of the LSO worldwide includes a highly-successful annual residence at the Lincoln Centre,New York,The Salle Pleyel,Paris and at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in France. Last year in a Gramophone magazine poll,the LSO was listed in the top five international orchestras by a judging panel that included leading international music critics. LSO Discovery is the Orchestra’s award-winning education and community programme based at LSO St Luke’s,its music education centre that reaches 60,000 people of all ages and from all walks of life every year. LSO Live is the LSO’s own CD label and is the most successful label of its kind in the world. The recordings are produced in live performance and now over 60 LSO live releases are available globally on CD,SACD and on digital music services.
