Live-in couple paraded in UP,pradhan’s husband held

Police arrested Firoz Ahmed,who is the husband of Pala village’s pradhan,and one of his associates.

A man and a woman living together in a village under Gaura Chauraha police station of Balrampur district were dragged out of their home at midnight and paraded in the village after their heads were shaved and faces blackened allegedly by the husband of the village pradhan and his associates on Sunday.

Police arrested Firoz Ahmed,who is the husband of Pala village’s pradhan,and one of his associates Mohammed Irshad.

An FIR has been lodged against seven villagers under various sections of IPC including 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt,assault or wrongful restraint).

Balrampur SP Vishambhar Dayal Shukla said the woman Qamar Jahan,who is married and has a seven-year-old son,had been living with her friend Saddam Hussain in the same village after she was separated from her husband Iftar.

He said the group of men,including the village pradhan’s husband,dragged them out of their house at night,shaved their heads,blackened their faces and paraded them in the village.

Police said Hussain,who had been working in Indore as a mechanic,had recently returned to the village and was staying with Jahan and her child. However,some villagers were angry at the couple for living together and had also threatened them.

Gaura Chauraha station officer Devanand said they got the information about the incident when the victims came to the police station.

He said some mediapersons had visited the village in the morning and asked the police about the incident.
