As Beijing and New Delhi prepare for Chinese Premier Li Keqiangs visit next week in the shadow of the recent stand-off over incursion,China on Monday said there was a need to redouble efforts to push forward talks for a framework agreement on boundary settlement.
Qin Gang,Spokesperson and Director-General of Information Department in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said,We need to redouble efforts to push framework negotiations so that we can reach at a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution at an early date.
Qin is in New Delhi to prepare for the first bilateral visit of the Chinese Premier to India.
Chinese government sources described the Ladakh incursion as an isolated incident, and said that it showed the well-tested effectiveness of the mechanisms of communication between the two nations over boundary issues. They also said it was encouraging that the timely handling of the incident prevented it from affecting bilateral relations.
Chinese sources said it is natural that such issues come up between neighbours. However, they should not be allowed to stand in the way of the bilateral relations.
Sources said they have four major expectations from Lis visit: To deepen mutual understanding, promote friendship, deepen mutual trust and promote cooperation.
When asked if the boundary issue will be discussed in detail during Lis visit, the Chinese officials said the boundary issue, will take time to resolve and how quickly it will be resolved will depend on the political will of the two nations.
