On the run in a Rs 250-crore land scam case, former Patiala deputy commissioner Vikas Garg has been arrested. A Punjab Vigilance Bureau team arrested the absconding officer from his in-laws Delhi house on Thursday, after getting inputs from a servant at his Chandigarh residence. He was produced in a Patiala court, which remanded him in a days custody. A Vigilance team arrested Garg from outside his in laws house in Paschim Vihar,Delhi, when he and his brother-in-law Vishal Mittal were on way to Supreme Court to file an application seeking quashing of an FIR in the land scam case. Garg was Patiala deputy commissioner when 6,000 sq yards of government land worth Rs 250 crore on the Post Office Road was allegedly marked as private property to allow its further sale in 2011. On Wednesday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had rejected his petition seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him on November 9 last year,in which he claimed he had no role to play in the land sale deed.
