In the ongoing no-holds-barred meddling of community organisations in the Congress government,the Hindu Nair community on Sunday raked up the upper class Hindu representation in the Cabinet close on the heels of the Muslim League gaining a fifth Cabinet berth. Addressing a community function in Kottayam,Nair Service Society general secretary Sukumaran Nair said his community was sidelined in the government with Nair legislators given insignificant portfolios. When the Hindus got only 10 Cabinet ranks,the minorities bagged 14. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy,Finance Minister K M Mani and Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty should explain marginalising the majority community, he said. A section had alleged that the NSS wanted to make Congress state president Ramesh Chennithala the chief minister. Chennithala (a Nair) fulfils all the requirements to become the chief minister. In a veiled attack on rival community organisations,Nair said,Dont show arrogance to us. The NSS is not living on anyones leased land. The Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League are trying to belittle the NSS.
