Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Raos warning of relaunching the agitation didnt create ripples as much as his claim that the separate state would be a reality later this month, which his detractors said was aimed at scuttling the August 15 Chalo Hyderabad protest march planned by the Telangana Joint Action Committee. His announcements had the desired effects the TJAC decided to scale down protests planned on the Independence Day and postpone it to September, a TJAC member said last Wednesday.
The TRS and TJAC have been at loggerheads over Telangana agitation with both trying to gain the upper hand and credit.
The TJAC,led by Prof M Kodandaram, had announced relaunching of Telangana agitation from August 15 by organising a Chalo Hyderabad march. Sources said that KCRs announcements were aimed at derailing the TJACs plans, and his confidence that the separate state would be declared later this month was misplaced.
At three separate public meetings in the last couple of days,KCR said that elections for President and Vice-President are over, now the Telangana agitation will start with renewed vigour. In the same breath,Rao confidently said that the separate state would be declared by the Centre by end of August.
TJAC coordinator M Kodandaram was conspicuous by his absence at all the meetings where KCR made these remarks. Sources said the tussle between TRS and TJAC to control of the agitation and internal bickering has led to dilution of resolve for Telangana and the movement has been put on the back burner. If the TJAC plans something, the TRS leaders object. If the TRS plans something, leaders within the TJAC take umbrage. Due to this, the agitation has taken a hit, said a member of the TJAC.
At a meeting at Nalgonda,KCR said,If the Centre does not respond this time,we will relaunch the agitation,we will be on the streets of Hyderabad again for a separate Telangana and this time there will be total chaos. We have kept quiet for some time after assurances from the Congress that it would take up the issue after the elections for President and Vice-President. Now that they are over,we want to hear from the Centre. I have also received some information suggesting that the Centre is planning to make the announcement on Telangana very soon. The Centre will take a positive decision soon. If that does not happen we will of course go back to agitation.
