CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday said corrective measures would be initiated in the party and its state governments to tide over the setback suffered in West Bengal and Kerala in the just concluded elections. Addressing a two-day national seminar in Perinthalmanna,Karat said: We admit the defeat of the party in its strongholds. But that has not demoralised the leadership as wished by certain retrogressive forces in the country. There had been lapses on the part of the government and the party in both states. By taking corrective steps, the party would regain its lost hold in those states. He said the CPI(M) would find out which communities and segments had got estranged from the party and the reasons for that. The party would soon be able to arrive at conclusions on the causes of the setback it faced in the LS elections, and that serious process is now nearing completion, Karat said.
