Knives are out in Telangana as Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy arrives in Nizamabad for a 48-hour hunger strike Tuesday to highlight farmers issues, with pro-Telangana parties Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) resolving to disrupt his programme.
Jagan Mohans YSR Congress is yet to clarify its stand on Telangana though he has opposed the statehood demand in the past. His last venture into Telangana Odarpu yatra in May 2010 met stiff opposition and he was forced to cancel his tour after a clash at Mahbubabad.
Pro-Telangana parties opposed TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidus tour of Telangana last week, but not before Naidu had toured two of the regions districts for nearly two weeks.
Now,while Jagan Mohan wants to test the Telangana waters again by organising a protest at Armoor in Nizamabad district,Telangana parties have decided to oppose him unless he clarifies his stand on the statehood issue.
Facing allegations from the Congress and TDP that the TRS has come to a strategic understanding with YSR Congress and will not oppose Jagan Mohan, the TRS was forced to clarify.
The Congress,TDP and YSR Congress are not making their stand clear on Telangana. They are changing their statements to suit their needs. We will not allow any of their leaders to enter Telangana unless they declare their support to a separate state. We will oppose Jagan Mohan just as we have opposed Naidu, TRSs T Harish Rao said.
The TJAC has also asked all organisations under its umbrella to oppose and protest against Jagan Mohan when he arrives at Armoor on Tuesday. The BJP and the Left are likely to join TRS in disrupting Jaganmohans programmes.
MLA K T Rama Rao,son of TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao,said Jagan Mohan would taste the anger of Telangana people for opposing the separate state.
People remember him showing a placard in Parliament against Telangana state. He is like Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and TDPs Naidu. If he is opposed to Telangana,he will face public resentment when he goes to Nizamabad, said Rao.
In a statement,YSR Congress spokesperson Bajireddy Goverdhan Reddy said it respected the sentiments of Telangana people but it was for the Centre to decide on the separate state issue.
