Arvind Kejriwal has not officially announced the name of his political party but his team is seeking public opinion — through bulk SMSes — on the electoral option by calling itself Anna Party. Anna Hazare, who has made it clear he was not in favour of floating of a political party to fight the anti-corruption battle,is reportedly upset over his name being used to garner public support.

One of the SMSes even promises a recharge of Rs 200.54 if it is forwarded to 20 people. The message says: “Vote for Anna party. Forward this SMS in 20 mobile. Get Rs 200.54.”

The ongoing referendum on whether the Lokpal movement should become a political party was announced after Kejriwal’s meeting with Hazare in Ralegan Siddhi last week where the two differed. Over the past week efforts have been concentrated on getting maximum positive responses to counter Hazare’s view that public opinion is against political party.

While questions on IAC website are direct — Should Team Anna form a political party and Should Team Anna contest elections — many of the SMSes talk about others issues. One reads: “Sirf 2G+Koyla ghotale me her gaon ke hisse ka Rs 60 lakh loot liya. Anna Party badlegi gaon ki tasvir. 9212472681 per YES sms kare+karvaye.” Neither Kejriwal nor IAC members associated with the proposed party were available for comment.
