Imphal: IED blast kills Assam Rifles man

Assam Rifles personnel were not supposed to be posted in the area but were carrying out their own patrolling.

An Assam Rifles personnel was killed when an IED bomb blast went off in Imphal on Monday. The blast took place at 4 pm inside the premises of the Water Supply office in Keishampat,the heart of the city. Senior police officials said the personnel sustained shrapnel injuries on one leg and was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injury due to heavy bleeding,said the police. A senior official from the Imphal West police said that the blast was not related to the ongoing tourism festival,the Sangai Festival,adding that the police suspect the blast has been carried out by the underground UNLF to mark their Raising Day on Monday. Police said the Assam Rifles personnel were not supposed to be posted in the area but were carrying out their own patrolling.
